This project was a complete interior renovation and rear and third floor addition to a modest two story historic home in Capitol Hill.

In consultation with the Historic Preservation Office, the additions were carefully scaled and positioned so that they would remain largely invisible from the street. Their simple forms and restrained detailing complement the original architecture without attempting to replicate it, preserving the modest character and proportions that distinguish the home.

The completed renovation balances preservation with renewal, retaining as much of the old while embracing the new. The result is a home that acknowledges and celebrates its approximately 150-year history while establishing a foundation for the next 150 years.
